about

The Continental Motor Inn was a motel/lounge along The National Road in Western Maryland. The road began just about a mile or two below the Continental. The original Toll House is still standing there, down the road a piece. The advent of the interstate, the loss of cottage industry, and the exodus of the young and irritated spelled the end for The Continental.

At some point in the early '00's, right as the death rattle was ringing its loudest Halaka was booked by some poor soul to play at the bar that was at the time running out of the former lounge. The band used the opportunity to workshop some tunes for an album they were working on at the time called 'State of Taking Over.' There early '00's became the 1967 Kelly Springfield Appreciation Dinner. Halaka opened for Lloyd, the recipient of the "Kelly Green" award. The pattern on the carpet is captivating and the little votive candles on the table smell like creamed chicken. Yes. Creamed chicken. In the 00's the album never came out. The recordings were lost when somebody left a hard drive in the back of a Buick LeSabre that was scrapped, but in 1967 this was the new shit.

This live document is anyone has of those songs. Lloyd lost the award in a card game. The band is not entirely sure who captured the event or if it ever even actually happened. The Continental is an over grown parking lot now. It's roped off by the owner to prevent entry, but there's nothing to protect. A Translucent Gold Statue, a Hole, maybe?

*Update - after scouring the archives an intern was able to turn up the only surviving studio track from the the 'State of Taking Over'sessions. It has been added to this album so that all may lament what could have been.
